Workshop Blackout Poetry
Whether you’re wanting to try your hand at a new craft or excited to hone your existing skill, come join us! Designed for any one of any experience level, this introductory workshop is a great way to try out writing some poetry!
The Workshop
following a brief introductory presentation on blackout poetry and its place in art history, we’ll explore an array of poems by famous blackout poets as well as amateurs. Pulling inspiration from these examples, we’ll explore various approaches to blackout poetry to create our very own finished poems! All materials (base text printouts, markers, pens, scissors, collage materials, glue sticks) will be provided, but feel free to bring along any of your own (ie pages from magazines or books, your own pens or sketchbook) if you’d like!
Your Facilitator
Artist, workshop facilitator and community organiser Hash (they/he) has spent the past 7 years exploring the intersection between art, community and political action. Since moving to Lisbon 4 years ago, they’ve integrated into Lisbon’s artist scene as a familiar face at art markets selling their range of political and queer art accessories. They’ve also been teaching art workshops by donation at ILGA for the past year, and have also recently launched Lisbon’s first Collage & Zine club! Their philosophy sees engaging with art and reclaiming our creativity as just one vital step in reimagining a better future for all marginalised people, and their workshops aim to create a welcoming, accessible and inspiring space for each person to reconnect with their creative spark.
